ITN is one of the most important aspects of importing and exporting. Without this, the entire process will seem to get halted. But not many have a clear idea about this concept as a whole and apparently, this is even more important if you are importing a vehicle. Most individuals do not know the ways and processes of applying for or getting one in the first place. Step 1: Contact your broker
You need to begin the process by letting your customs broker know that you are ready to import the vehicle. There are few methods by which you can buy a vehicle in the US and each of them will be requiring different paperwork. The broker will be needing the documents based on from whom you have bought the vehicle and what you are using it for.
Step 2: Declare the crossing information
Your broker needs to know the exact crossing information to help you out ultimately.
- You need to inform the specific ports or border crossing you want to opt for.
- The exact date you want to cross.
- Added details if you are hiring any transport company for your job. You need to provide the carrier’s name, SCAC and their contact information.
Step3: Wait for 72 hours
The entire set of paperwork will be submitted by your customs broker and you need to wait for about 72 hours to hear back anything from the customs department. This is also when you will receive your ITN. You might receive this over the email or over a text message on the phone number you have provided with. You can then decide if you want to proceed with any customs broker for a full import or if you want to self-declare the vehicle.
Here are the other documents that will be needed:
- Bill of sale
- A copy of the vehicle’s title, both front and back
- A copy of the driving license of the importer
- A copy of the passport of the importer
- Name, address and phone number of the dealer
- A gift letter if the car is a gifted one
