If you want to provide structural integrity and support to your building, steel is one of the finest choices. Your construction projects will achieve structural soundness with the help of structural steel sections that are used to hold the steel bars. These structural steel pieces are created using steel, which helps in providing unparalleled potency, flexibility, and durability.

Structural steel has been used by the engineers for various projects and they have helped us in understanding what their right capabilities are.

Let us go through the basic types of structural steel sections that are available and how exactly they are used.

Angles

These are steel beams that are L in shape and are available in multiple sizes and lengths. Here, two steel legs come together at a 90-degree angle and each of the legs might be unequal or equal in length. This kind of structural section can be used in floor systems. This is because their structural depth is reduced and strength-to-weight ratios are enhanced. You can find them commonly in residential buildings, transport applications, mining, or infrastructure.

Beams

These are your common or standard steel beams that are used in combination with steel girders. These are commonly available in three shapes: the standard S beams, the wide-flange W beams, and the pile or the H and T beam. The S beams have tapered flanges on them while the W ones have parallel flanges. The H beams are universal beams and are shaped like namesakes. The T beams are a bit different. They do not have any bottom flange and the top of their cross-section is a flange. This is connected to a vertical web below. Due to their shape, they are mostly used as load-bearing sections.

Bearing piles

The engineers and construction workers use bearing piles when they are unable to find a strong foundation on the worksite. The bearing piles are extremely helpful when deeper foundation systems need to be created. This helps them to be structurally sound and stable. Bearing piles are normally H-shaped steel pieces, the design of which allows them to easily transfer the entire load from the pile to the tip. It can bear more than thousand tons of weight, which makes it extremely durable as well as efficient.

Special structural pieces are always helpful to the engineers during the process of steel fabrication and can benefit greatly if used wisely.
